Barossa gets set for Rodeo action

This ain’t the Barossa’s first Rodeo – in-fact competitors from right across the country will be making their way to the Barossa Valley for two action-packed rodeo events in November.

The Barossa Rodeo will take centre stage on Saturday November 16 at the home of Lyndoch’s Barossa Helicopters, with a spectacular showcase of precision roping, barrel racing and steer wrestling, mixed with an exciting line-up of family-friendly fun.

In it’s third year on the rodeo calendar, the Barossa Timed Event Rodeo encourages athletes to show off their fast and fearless skills, with more than $15,000 prize-money on the line.

Organiser, Bridgette Hasting, who’s no stranger to rodeo in South Australia, said the event is increasing in popularity, and is a great addition to the end of year events calendar for the beautiful Barossa Valley.

Like many success stories, the inspiration for a Barossa Timed Event Rodeo was born over a couple of drinks at the local pub, with herself (the Chief Pilot at Barossa Helicopters) and long-time friends and rodeo competitors, Gary and Amanda Tielen.

Initially planned as a competitor only event, avid rodeo enthusiasts were keen to get a piece of the action, with spectator numbers tripling last year and a host of generous sponsors also jumping on board, prompting the organising crew to bring in a line-up of  food trucks, including Fiesta Tajine, O.G. Smash Burgers, Potato On A Stick and TaCHs Stroopwafels, a licensed bar and Kies Wine stall,  fun and games for the kids and local band, Urban Cover, to create a family-friendly day of fun.

“We’ve brought the event date forward this year to encourage more interstate competitors to stay and explore SA for a week and hang around for Kapunda’s Rodeo the following weekend,” Bridgette said.

Gates will open at 12pm, the rodeo action will kick off at 2pm with junior events, the kids can get in on the action, with some dummy roping in the ring, farm animals and face painting. The open competitors will show them how it’s done later in the afternoon, before the band gets underway at 6pm.
