Explore the Fleurieu from the historic comforts of Glenbarr Homestead

Set on 35 acres of rolling farmland on the edge of Strathalbyn, Glenbarr Homestead is where history, nature, and modern comfort come together.

Built in 1842 by Scottish settler William Rankine, Glenbarr is one of South Australia’s oldest surviving homesteads and has long been part of the region’s story. Once home to generations of the pioneering Rankine family, the property has welcomed everyone from settlers to Scouts, campers to creatives – and now offers a relaxed retreat for groups of all kinds.

Right in the heart of the Fleurieu Peninsula, Glenbarr is the perfect base for exploring the region. It’s just a short stroll from Strathalbyn’s delightful main street- lined with antique shops, cosy cafĂ©s and beautiful gardens – and only a stone’s throw from the Langhorne Creek wine region. Monarto Safari Park is just 30 minutes away, with the lake and coast both under a 45-minute drive.

Where comfort meets character

Glenbarr’s accommodation includes six roomy dorm-style spaces that sleep up to six guests each, plus Kathleen’s Cottage – a cosy little retreat with a queen bed, two singles, its own bathroom, and a handy kitchenette. Perfect if you’re after a bit of peace and privacy.

There are also powered and unpowered caravan sites available if your crew’s a little bigger.
