Ladies get ready for SA’s Biggest Rain Dance at Day In The Dirt
A group of Adelaide Plains mums are throwing on their boots and bringing the energy to Owen Oval this Anzac Day long weekend, hosting Day In The Dirt — a dust-kicking drought relief event for rural women.
Organised by a grassroots group of local ladies who call themselves the Adelaide Plains FarmHers, the afternoon aims to lift spirits, spark a few laughs, and remind rural women they’re not alone.
Supported by the Mallala Ag Bureau, Day In The Dirt promises a powerful mix of music, movement and mateship — all for just $5 a ticket.
Headlining the event is none other than DJ Sparks – aka Tony Clarke, a Tarlee farmer and legendary local DJ who lit up dancefloors across SA in the 80s and 90s. Alongside him, a Barossa-based dance instructor will lead an all-in Rain Dance – a moment of shared hope, strength, and cheeky optimism in the face of one of South Australia’s toughest dry spells on record.
Local Member for Frome, Penny Pratt MP, has thrown her support behind the initiative and will be stepping into the dust to take part in the big Rain Dance. There’ll be tasty eats from local community groups, plenty of giveaways, and a dusty dance floor that’s begging for boots.
“It’s not a fundraiser,” the FarmHers explain. “It’s just about giving women a break — a chance to come together, let go, and feel seen during a really tough time on the land.”
Tickets are limited — so grab your friends, throw on a frock or flanno, and dance your heart out on an oval that hasn’t seen a footy match or a blade of grass for decades.
