Hair today gone tomorrow for Stormy’s big hearted crew
Big-bearded and even bigger-hearted, Stormy McMahon and his three courageous daughters from Wilmington are making the chop today – and it’s all to help kids in need!
Stormy, known for his Viking-like mane and beard (grown for the Variety Club Bash), is no stranger to giving back. He and his wife Krystal have been involved with the bash since 2016, raising nearly $70,000 for the children’s charity. But with a change of theme for the next bash, it’s time to lose the locks. His daughters, Alice (13), Matilda (10), and Elizabeth (8), will also be rocking buzz cuts when they head back to school next week – all for a fabulous cause.
The girls are donating their hair to Hair with Heart, a charity that makes wigs for kids going through cancer treatment. Matilda’s one-metre long Rapunzel-like locks and Elizabeth’s 50cm of hair are set to bring smiles to young faces. It’s the first time the girls will part with their long tresses, which they’ve been growing their entire lives, only trimming the ends when needed.
Even Stormy’s impressive Viking beard and Alice’s ever-changing locks are going to a good cause. “I mentioned raising a couple of hundred bucks by getting rid of the beard and shaving my hair, and the girls came to me the next day and said they wanted to cut their hair off so we could raise even more money for Variety,” said Stormy.
While many have suggested the girls could settle for short hair cuts instead of going the whole crew cut, their response? “Whatever, it’s just hair – it’ll grow back.”
The McMahon girls have already raised $7,000 for Variety, hoping to reach $10,000 by the end of their big chop tonight at the Adelaide Sailing Club. Stormy’s proud of his girls’ bravery and their desire to help others – “We’ve always taught them, if you’ve got more than you need in life and you can help others, do it.”
Tonight, the hair falls for a great cause!
