Know a local hero? Give them the recognition they deserve
Where would we be without our volunteers – especially in regional South Australia?
They’re the backbone of our country communities, making the impossible possible and keeping the good stuff happening. Nominating and recognising them is an easy way to show our gratitude and let them know how valued they are.
Nominations are now open for the 2025 South Australian Volunteer Awards, which will celebrate 20 years of recognising the incredible individuals, groups, and businesses that give their time to make South Australia a fabulous place to live.
Award Categories:
- The Joy Noble Medal – SA’s highest honour for an individual volunteer.
- ‘The Andamooka’ Community Project Award – For a volunteer project making a big impact.
- The Young Volunteer Award – Celebrating volunteers aged 12-25 making a difference.
- The Excellence in Volunteer Management Award – Recognising an outstanding volunteer manager.

South Australia is home to 950,000 volunteers who contribute 223 million hours of unpaid work each year – that’s a whopping $36 billion in social and economic value! It’s time to celebrate them.
Nat Cook, Minister for Human Services, said, “This year, as we mark the 20th anniversary of these awards, we celebrate the nearly one million volunteers who help our state grow stronger and more connected every day. South Australia’s volunteers are often the quiet champions of change in our communities and continue to demonstrate remarkable generosity through their efforts. The volunteer sector has faced its challenges, but South Australia continues to punch above its weight when it comes to giving back. I encourage everyone to take this opportunity to nominate a deserving individual or group and help shine a spotlight on their invaluable contributions.”
So, if you know someone who deserves some time in the spotlight, nominate them today!
