From outback inspiration to city connections – two unmissable opportunities for artists

How does three weeks in the Flinders or a creative crash course in the city sound?

Country Arts SA is opening up two amazing opportunities for artists – the Grindell’s Hut Artist Residency for artists nationwide, and NEBULA – a professional development program for emerging and early-career regional SA artists.

Grindell’s Hut – Create in the South Australian outback

This is a rare chance to let nature take the lead and spend three weeks (October 7–27) in the breathtaking Vulkathunha-Gammon Ranges National Park, on Adnyamathanha Country in the Northern Flinders Ranges.

Open to all art forms – from painting and poetry to music or movement – this residency is about creative freedom and connection to place.

Country Arts SA Visual Arts Manager Lauren Mustillo said, “The residency’s setting, combined with the expertise and enthusiasm of the on-site Park Ranger team, creates an environment where the creative possibilities are limitless.”

Artist Deborah Prior called it “A transformative and restorative experience… It has challenged and expanded my thinking and making processes in the studio, and heightened my awareness and appreciation of the natural world.”

Applications close 5pm, Tuesday June 24. More information can be found at Grindell’s Hut – Country Arts

NEBULA – Skill up in the city

Ready to hit the big smoke? NEBULA is offering up to eight emerging and early-career artists from regional SA the chance to do just that from September 3–5, thanks to Country Arts SA’s professional development program. Across three jam-packed days, artists will take part in workshops, gallery visits, and connect with curators, fellow artists, and industry leaders.

It lines up with major arts events like the Breaking Ground exhibition, and gives artists the tools and connections to take their careers to the next level.

Ms Mustillo says NEBULA is all about access. “Over three days of workshops, forums, and networking opportunities – with some of South Australia’s most brilliant and respected curators, artists and arts leaders – this program unlocks a wide range of professional opportunities and shows artists how to access them.

“We’re looking for emerging or early career artists from regional SA who want to enhance their sector knowledge, connect with peers, and be taken seriously as artists.”

It’s free to attend and includes meals, accommodation, and some travel support.

Expressions of Interest close 5pm, Sunday May 19. Find your application here.
