Non-Stop Fun, Live Music, and a Spectacular Fireworks Finale

The Burra Show will fling open its gates on October 12 for a chock-a-block day of fun and entertainment. Show day promises plenty of fun for the whole family, and you’ll want to stick around when the sun goes down, as South Aussie band, Wildside, brings live music as a spectacular fireworks display lights up the night sky in a show-stopping finale.

Celebrating 100 Years at the Showgrounds

This year’s Burra Show will be extra momentous, marking a century of celebrations at the current showgrounds, and the 147th annual Burra show – a milestone event packed with history and loads of community spirit.

Motorsport fans are in for a treat as South Aussie Moto Trials champion, Connor Hogan, takes to the field for a thrilling motocross demo. Fresh from securing his 6th SA championship title and competing on the international stage, Connor, who hails from Bangor in the Southern Flinders Ranges, is set to wow the crowd with his jaw-dropping stunts and skill.

Thrills, Shearing Skills, and Creative Crafts on Display

Of course, no Burra Show would be complete without the Speed Shear Competition! Watch as shearers go head-to-head, with fleeces flying in categories from Novice to Veterans. With great prizes on the line, it’s bound to be an intense and entertaining showdown.

For the arty crafters, this year’s show brings something new  – a handicrafts section in the art pavilion. Inspired by the recent burst of talent from local community art groups, this section will showcase a variety of works, from pottery and basketry to macramé and mosaics, all celebrating the region’s creativity. While admiring these artistic beauties, take a stroll through more than 50 market stalls, offering unique treasures and fresh local produce, giving you the perfect chance to tick off your Christmas list early while supporting the talents of local makers.

And the creative spirit doesn’t stop there. Families can rustle up a Scarecrow Competition entry, by creating a unique masterpiece from recycled materials, and fashion-lovers can join in the Woolpack Challenge, designing clothing with a woolly twist. There’ll be no shortage of imagination on display at this year’s Burra Show!

Classic Show Favourites Return

Classic show favourites will be out in full force, too. Pavilion displays, pony rides, vintage cars, and the much-loved Burra ‘Show and Shine’ and the Ute Muster will be revving it up for car lovers. The ever-popular Johnny Green Trail also returns, offering a free adventure for kids as they roam the grounds, collecting show treasures along the way. When the adults need a break, the giant sandpit and outdoor games will keep the little ones busy, and sideshow alley will be buzzing with excitement.

Out on the oval, the highlight for many will be the quirky and fun Hobby Horse Event, where riders will leap over jumps on their trusty stick horses, adding a twist and a few laughs to the Horses in Action program. Meanwhile, for those with a competitive streak, the Young Farmers Challenge will see teams of four battling it out in farm-style tasks, all aiming for a shot at the national finals.

With so much on offer and endless entertainment and activities, the 2024 Burra Show is set to be a non-stop day of excitement. So grab your mates, bring the family, and head to beautiful Burra on October 12 for a full day (and night!) of classic country fun.
