Workshops, wine, and a weekend of blooming creativity at Penola
The Penola Coonawarra Arts Festival is back and blooming under this year’s theme, Flourishing. And flourish it does, with three jam-packed days of art, wine, workshops, and some good old country charm from May 16-18.
It all kicks off Friday night with the official opening at the new Still Water Studio, where the 2025 Poets of Penola Art Prize winner will be crowned. Meanwhile, Penola Town Square will turn into a buzzing little party with live music, food, wine, and locals ready to dance the night away.
Saturday is all about getting your hands dirty, where you can test out your block printing skills, metal art, or lino cutting. Or take the chance to wander through exhibitions dotted around town, from contemporary pieces at Gallery 54 to tea-and-paper-inspired works at Katnook Estate. As the sun sets, things will get loud with Shenanigans – a fun night filled with great music, amazing food, and superb wines.
Sunday winds things down with the much-loved “Down the Lane” market along Petticoat Lane, where you’ll find handmade goods, tasty bites, face painting for the kids, and a few surprise tunes. There’s also an open mic comp if you’re brave enough. Perhaps a glass of Coonawarra shiraz will be needed?
Add in author talks, cellar door pit stops, and a full program of visual and performing arts, and you’ve got one cracking weekend in the Limestone Coast.
