Connect, Reflect and Recharge at Wakefield’s Farming Mates Muster
Farmers and regional residents are being invited to pull on their boots, round up their mates, and head along to a free community event aimed at connecting rural people, sharing a few laughs, and reminding each other they’re not alone.
The Wakefield Farming Mates Muster will be held on Monday, June 23, at the Lochiel Community Centre (footy club) from 6pm to 8.30pm, featuring a line-up of speakers who know a thing or two about footy, farming, and mental health.
Former AFL star and media personality Bernie Vince will headline the event, sharing stories from on and off the field, while also opening up about the importance of mateship and checking in with one another.
He’ll be joined by fellow former Crow and Fat Farmers ambassador Brett Burton, Grain Producers SA Chair John Gladigau, and BeWellCo Wellbeing Specialist Esme Fabry — each bringing their own insights into rural life, mental wellbeing, and the importance of events like this one.

Wakefield Regional Council is hosting the evening, with support from PIRSA’s Connected Communities Program. Mayor Rodney Reid said the event is about more than just a good feed and a few laughs.
“There’s a deeper understanding now of how important connection is in the bush — especially in the tough times,” Mayor Reid said. “Our farmers are the backbone of this region, socially and economically. This event is about looking after each other, and giving people a moment to breathe, reset, and share some strength.”
There’ll be delicious food from the legends at Port Wakefield’s Rising Sun Hotel, and  a licensed bar available. Bookings are essential as seats are limited.
