The Global spotlight continues to shine on Regional South Australia, with Barossa Valley winery, Alkina Wine Estate named the “best of the best” at the 2024 Best of Wine Tourism Awards in Switzerland.
Competing against twelve great wine capitals around the world including Bordeaux and Napa Valley, Alkina took home a Global Best of Wine Tourism Award for Wine Tourism Accommodation.
The prestigious award was accepted on behalf of Alkina Wine Estate, by South Australia’s Minister for Tourism Zoe Bettison, who said the win highlights the passion and dedication in our state’s tourism industry and the strength of our wine regions.
She congratulated the team at Alkina Wine Estate and said she was thrilled to have been in Switzerland to accept the award on behalf of our state, as we continue to showcase South Australia as a must-visit tourism destination.
Alkina Wine Estate was recognised for its luxury accommodation which comprises a meticulously restored cottage and homestead.
The farm at Alkina was established in 2015 by Argentinian vintner Alejandro Bulgheroni and together with local winegrower Amelia Nolan, they restored the Greenock property’s 1850s buildings and planted new vines to create Alkina Wine Estate.
In 2020, they opened the accommodation and tasting room to the public. The unique stay champions the history of the homestead and land, and offers guests bespoke wine and food experiences that showcase the quality produce of the region.
Alkina Wine Estate is dedicated to using sustainable practices across the winery and accommodation offerings, with a focus on organic and biodynamic farming practices.
Managing Director Alkina Wine Estate, Amelia Nolan, said the team was incredibly excited to receive this global recognition.
“Our accommodation offering, situated in the heart of our beautiful organic vineyard, provides guests with a truly immersive and authentic Barossa and Alkina experience.”
The Alkina Old Quarter Homestead and Cottage are meticulously renovated and boast a collection of vintage art and furniture, combined with modern luxury conveniences, elegance and attention to detail. Amelia said the organic vineyard, teeming with biodiversity, is the “perfect backdrop for that 5pm ‘sundowner”.
