A Taste of the Hills serves up a Festival for the senses

Abbie Tiller

Here’s what’s in store at Lot 100 as the Hills come alive with the tastes of the region

The Adelaide Hills is bustling with fresh produce, gourmet food and tasty pours – so when they all roll in to one stunning location for the last weekend in March, you can get an exclusive ‘Taste of the Hills’, paired with live music and high altitude vibes.

Lot 100, just outside of Nairne, will be packed with more than 40 of the Adelaide Hills’ finest food and beverage experts, dishing up free tastings, memorable mastersclasses and an all ’round feast for the senses.

There’ll be live music right across the weekend, with Melbourne legends, Kingswood, headlining Saturday and Sunday. South Aussie sister-duo, Ella and Sienna, will join the line up, as well as DJ Tallie, Pash, Axe and the Ivory and a list of other musical talents.

Among the flavours of the hills you’ll find all the favourites from Hahndorf Brewing Co and Adelaide Hills Distillery, to the award-winning Nepenthe Wines, Adelaide Hills Cider, Ambleside Distillers, Ashton Valley Fresh, Cheesy Street, Red Cacao and more.

Make it a Masterclass Experience

Simon Tolley Wines is bringing their unique wine and popcorn pairing experienceThink Sparkling Chardonnay and Pinot with Lemon Cheesecake Popcorn or Pinot Noir with Caramel and Chocolate Drizzle Popcorn!

Or you can book yourself in for a hands-on blending masterclass with 78° Distilling, and take home your very own custom-blended gin.

Lot 100 is also the home of Mismatch Brewing – so it’s the perfect opportunity to go behind the scenes with head brewer Tom Wood, to check out how Mismatch’s brews come to life.

By late afternoon, you’ll be ready to kick back with a beverage for a relaxed hour of “Brushflicks n Chill” (aka paint and sip).‍

Learn the art of Spanish Cuisine with Comida Hahndorf

If creating five star flavours from home is what you aspire to, the Spanish cuisine experts from Comida at Hahndorf are sending their head Chef, Brad McAvaney, to Lot 100 – where you can sip local wine while he divulges his secrets to cooking your very own delicious Spanish paella!

As your aromatic masterpiece simmers away, Brad will be serving up a delicious tapas to enjoy while you ask all your burning questions (no pun intended), and refine your own culinary skills.

If you prefer a less hands-on tasting experience, Comida will be dishing up authentic Spanish cuisine crafted from fresh, local produce, including chicken and chorizo paella and a selection of fresh Spanish inspired tapas.

Get “Abit Fancy” with gin tastings and Ginspresso Martinis

One thing we love about this festival of flavours is the free tastings. Joining the lineup is Abit Fancy Spirits, hailing from just down the road in Nairne. Ross Gillespie will be pouring delectable small-batch spirits, that are fancy by name and fancy by flavour.

Get your tastebuds firing with Abit Fancy’s Signature Gin – a classic dry gin with an Aussie twist of lemon myrtle and orange blossom. Sample the pink Moonflower Gin and the all new Mulberry Gin, and while you’re at it why not try the popular Strawberry Apertif, made from fresh Adelaide Hills strawberries and apple juice from Lenswood Cider Co.

Ross will also be shaking up an invigorating Ginspresso Martini to help kick off the festival vibes!

Whatever your tastes – whether it be award-winning hills wines, Five Eleven Distilling’s brand new “Pink Rose” hard lemonade, fresh juices or Lot 100’s famous wood fired pizzas, A Taste of the Hills has a flavour for everyone.

Shuttle busses will run from Adelaide, stopping at locations throughout the Hills, so you can enjoy a tipple without the hassle of a designated driver.

The event is family-friendly, with a designated Kid Zone. You can eat and drink until your heart’s content under the beautiful big gums. Or if you want to elevate your Hills experience, take a scenic helicopter flight, or access the VIP area – complete with a bar, a daybed area, cheese platter grazing box, a bottle of wine and plenty of tasty morsels!
