Celebrate Filmmaking on the Fleurieu
The Fleurieu Film Festival, established in 2016 on the Fleurieu Peninsula, is a competitive short film festival aimed at providing a platform for emerging filmmakers.
Founded by Alison Alcock, the festival has grown significantly, evolving into an industry-standard event that not only showcases films but also celebrates the region’s arts, culture, food, and wine. Initially planned as a small gathering under a tree, over the years the festival has grown into a unique major outdoor event.
This year the McLaren Vale and Fleurieu Visitors Centre will host the finalist screening and awards night, which promises exciting prizes, sponsorships, and opportunities for filmmakers.
Guests will enjoy live music by the Onkaparinga Concert Band and Heather Road Celtic folk group while sipping on local wines and devouring delicious food from on-site food trucks. As night falls, a fantastic lineup of films from South Australia and beyond will be screened, with guests experiencing compelling stories under the stars, with awards being presented across various categories.
Following the Festival, on Sunday, film enthusiasts can treat themselves and join the Fleurieu Film Festival creative team and Mark Koolmatrie in a hands-on workshop to create a film using a smartphone in just four hours! Open to all ages, this workshop will cover filming on Android or Apple phones, scene composition, story editing, and adding sound and music to your film. Participants will explore three Fleurieu Peninsula locations of indigenous significance, by chartered bus from the McLaren Vale Visitor Centre with the all-day tour including lunch at a local bakery.
