The Cummins community is kicking goals, with an exciting new $3.2 million sporting complex due to be officially unveiled in March, just in time for winter sport.
An absolute game changer for the region, the multipurpose facility brings together the Cummins Ramblers Football and Netball Club and Cummins Kapinnie Cougars Football and Netball Club.
The two sporting clubs are normally fierce on-field competitors but have united to deliver the new clubrooms at the Cummins Community Recreational Grounds.
The Joint Build Facility consists of community clubrooms with a retractable internal acoustic wall to create flexible spaces for either two simultaneous events of up to 200 people each, single club usage, or a 400-seat conference venue complete with bar facilities, meeting rooms, kitchen, toilets, cool rooms and a verandah.
Chairperson of the build, Lucy Pedler, said the upgrades would be a huge positive for the community, particularly with sport being the “cultural lifeblood” of regional communities.
“Prior to this building there were no onsite club room facilities, only change rooms and a canteen with a small bar run out of a shed.
Both football clubs had clubrooms located off site away from the oval which was far from ideal.
Organised sport remains the cultural lifeblood of regional communities. With the new facility, all clubs have the opportunity to continue to prosper with the ability to retain supporters and players for meals and social events post training and games.”
The upgrades have been 20 years in the making and will provide the wider community with enhanced facilities available to hire for workshops, meetings, conferences and larger sporting events.
The official opening of the new facility will be happening on March 30 at 11am at the Cummins Community Sports Club with nibbles and drinks to follow.
