A storm is brewing on the SA racing scene
We may be in the middle of summer with no thunderstorms in sight for SA, but a storm of a different kind swept in last month when four-year-old mare, Stormsarrived, stormed home to victory with a $100,000 Strathalbyn Cup win.
What makes this story even more remarkable is that Bordertown owners, Kym and Lindsay Cadzow, purchased the Australia Day long weekend cup winner online in August, for just $1000.
Stormsarrived upstaged her more fancied rivals to take home $107,500, taking her prizemoney to $140,650 from just nine starts for her new stable.
Apprentice jockey, Caitlin Tootell, rode her brilliantly to record the biggest win of her short riding career.
Owner and trainer, Lindsay Cadzow, has been in the game for over 40 years and has a knack for seeing potential in horses that others might not. His love for horses runs deep, but this is without doubt one of the biggest wins of his career.
Cadzow said his internet bargain continues to “surprise him” every time she races.
“We have been surprised just about every win, we brought her to run around the country in a few 2000m races and try and get our money back but she seems to do the job whenever we step her up,” Cadzow said.
“We put her in a race at Morphettville and it was about ten days after we had brought her and there was probably about six or seven horses in it.
“She won the race and then her rating jumped up a fair bit so we had to start putting her in better races, but even then she keeps on winning.
“What an investment for a $1000! It’s definitely been money well spent, and the Strath Cup was the first ever $100,000 race I’ve won.
“Her rating has jumped right up to 77 now so we have to look at the bigger races like the Adelaide Cup over the March long weekend. So we are really excited about that.”
Cadzow has had a bit of success in the past with a horse called Space Equity, which won himself and Kym over $200,000 throughout its racing career.
With the early success of Stormsarrived things look very bright for the team, and all for just $1000!
