Catherine Marriott OAM and Casey Treloar headline an after of connection at Yorke Peninsula Rural Women’s Day
Rural Women’s Day is returning to Yorke Peninsula, and if last year’s sold-out debut was anything to go by, tickets won’t last long. The Stables at Halcyon will once again play host to an afternoon celebrating the women who help country communities thrive.
Headlining the day is Catherine Marriott OAM, often described as one of Australia’s leading voices for rural communities, alongside MC Casey Treloar, the 7NEWS weather presenter whose own farming background has made her a passionate advocate for regional South Australia.
While the guest speakers will no doubt inspire, organisers have made sure there’s plenty more to enjoy throughout the afternoon.
Co-host and Halcyon owner Nicky Mattschoss said the day was designed to give rural women something they often don’t make time for – a few hours to simply relax.
“Most of the women who come are the ones holding everything together – at home, on the farm, in the business and in the community,” she said.
“For five hours, someone else is doing the food, someone else has organised the day, and all they have to do is turn up with their friends.”
That philosophy has shaped this year’s event, with organisers adding picnic tables and umbrellas on the lawn, comfy seating for the speaker sessions and plenty of time to simply catch up.
Guests will also be able to enjoy four hands-on experiences hosted by Yorke Peninsula businesses, including a Bloom Bar with Little Kalkabury Farm, a collaborative Community Canvas with Belinda Wundersitz from The Perfect Pot, scent and hand cream making with Angela Hamilton from Zeste, and Vinyl on the Verandah with Neil from Peninsula Records and Books.
The afternoon also includes a welcome cocktail, roaming food by Ash Catering and plenty of opportunities to catch up with friends in the relaxed surrounds of The Stables.
Beyond the food and entertainment, the day also gives back to the community. Proceeds from a raffle on the day help fund Women’s Care Packs for Yorketown, Maitland and Wallaroo hospitals, providing toiletries and everyday essentials for women unexpectedly transferred to Adelaide for treatment.
“A woman turns up to hospital with nothing, and because 150 women had a great afternoon at Halcyon Stables, there’s a care pack waiting for her,” said event organiser and co-host Natasha Mahar from The Sparkle Biz.
