Xmas Rocks Rodeo Transforms Willalooka Farm Into Twilight Arena
A Limestone Coast farm will morph into a professional rodeo arena this long-weekend, as the very first Xmas Rocks Rodeo rides into town.
The twilight rodeo marks the first big event for the new multi-purpose Xmas Rocks event venue, located just off the Riddoch Highway, about 20 minutes south of Keith.
Owners Jess Keenan and Scott Francis can’t wait to bring a crowd together for an action-packed night of fun in the rodeo arena, with on-site camping and a big recovery brekky cooked by the legends from the local Rotary Cub.
Gates open at 3pm on Saturday, with the late afternoon and evening rodeo kicking off under twilight skies.
There’ll be an array of food vans on site, including local favourites like Tantanoola Icecream and fresh donuts, along with country and western clothing vendors, Southern Rustic.
South Australian Helicopters will also be offering joy flights across the Limestone Coast throughout the evening.
For younger rodeo-goers, there’s a Best Dressed Cow-kids competition for children aged 5 to 10, and plenty of mid-break entertainment including the crowd-favourite Bungee for a Bundy. South Australian Helicopters will be offering joy flights for those wanting to check out the region from above, and watch the rodeo crew roll in.
Live music from SA band No Plans will carry the night through after the final ride.
Supporting The Limestone Coast Community
Local sporting clubs and community groups have been invited to help out on the night as a fundraiser.
A donation from the event will also go to BlazeAid – the grassroots charity which moves in to help regional communities in the aftermath of natural disasters.
For those wanting to make a weekend of it, there’s plenty of action happening across the region. Nearby Mundulla hosts a barrel race and live band on Friday night, followed by the Mundulla Show on Saturday.
