My Brilliant Career to be filmed across South Australia, creating jobs and showing off our stunning backyard
Clear some space on the world stage because South Australia’s about to be front and centre on Netflix again.
A brand-new series based on the Aussie literary classic My Brilliant Career is set to film across the state, with the Southern Barossa and the South East taking a turn in the limelight. It’s a huge win for regional SA, and a brilliant boost for local jobs, tourism and small businesses.
This is the second big Netflix production to shoot here in recent years, following Territory, which blew up the charts in 2024 and reached No. 2 globally. Now, we’re doing it all again, but with corsets, cattle stations, and a healthy dose of feminism.
Backed by the State Government through the SA Film Corporation, the series will be the biggest TV investment in SA’s history, injecting a whopping $17 million into our economy and creating an estimated 450 jobs, with crew, extras, creatives, and more than 250 local small businesses all set to benefit.
Filming officially kicked off on June 12, with production rolling across Adelaide, the SAFC’s Adelaide Studios, and into the countryside. Our backdrops will double for rural Australia in the 1890s, showcasing the kind of rolling paddocks, rambling homesteads, and old-fashioned charm that most places can only dream of.
“The SAFC is proud to support this exciting new series which will harness the world-class skills of a majority South Australian crew… and once again provide a showcase for our state’s screen production capability, talent and endlessly beautiful locations.”
— SAFC CEO Kate Croser
And it’s not just the landscapes getting a look-in. A majority South Australian crew has been brought on board, with Netflix also offering four paid on-set training roles – in costume, design, safety and more – giving emerging locals a rare foot in the door of a global production.
The cast features a solid mix of Aussie favourites and international faces, including Philippa Northeast (Territory, The Newsreader) as Sybylla and Christopher Chung (Slow Horses) as Harry, alongside Anna Chancellor, Genevieve O’Reilly, Kate Mulvany and more.
It’s a win-win for the state – great TV, real jobs, and some well-earned global attention for South Australia’s most stunning destinations. The series is set to drop in late 2026 or early 2027, putting our people, places and stories back in the international spotlight.
