Scenic Flights Taking the Yorke Peninsula Coastline to New Heights

Far West Helico are offering scenic flights over Southern Yorke Peninsula.
Abbie Tiller

We’ve seen the Yorke Peninsula coastline from plenty of angles over the years – from the beach, the clifftops, the boat ramp and the deck at the Dalrymple – but getting up above it all? That’s something else entirely.

We recently had the chance to take to the skies with the crew from Far West Helico, who’ve brought their chopper to the coast for a summer stint – trading bull dust for white sand and giving locals and visitors a whole new view of Southern Yorke Peninsula.

Alex Johnson and Louis Bennell are usually found chasing cattle through the outback, but for the next couple of weeks they’re hovering above some of SA’s most spectacular coastline – and loving it.

Crystal Clear Water, Rugged Cliffs and Uninterrupted Coastline

Our magical sunset flight kicked off from one of our favourite Yorke Peninsula spots, Hillocks Drive, just north of Marion Bay. If you’re going to show off the YP, you may as well start strong. The view from above is next level – crystal-clear turquoise water, rugged cliff lines, long stretches of untouched white sand and clear views across to Kangaroo Island.

Scenic flights kick off from Point Turton, where you’ll float over Flahertys, one of Australia’s most insta-worthy beaches. The Far West Helico crew are also taking flights from Marion Bay, with endless ocean on one side and the Dhilba Guuranda-Innes National Park on the other. You can also fly over Edithburgh and spot the boats bobbing on the water was fishing life returns to Gulf St Vincent.

Starting from $80 per person, these scenic flights are surprisingly accessible and absolutely worth it, with big views and plenty of “wow” moments.
No bookings needed, flights take off from midday (weather permitting. Just follow the signs, pack your camera and see some of SA’s most incredible coastline from a while new angle.
