Fresh New Look for Port Parham on the Samphire Coast

Port Parham on the Adelaide Plains’ Samphire Coast could be getting a fresh new look along its foreshore, with a funding promise aimed at improving access and facilities for both locals and the steady stream of visitors.

Labor candidate for Ngadjuri, Tony Piccolo, has announced a $1.12 million funding commitment toward the Port Parham Foreshore Precinct Project — if the Malinauskas Government is returned at the next election.

The funding would go towards some of the big-ticket basics that have been on the community’s wish list for a while — including sealing the Esplanade and upgrading the boat ramp area and northern carpark. The commitment is contingent on Adelaide Plains Council securing the rest of the funding needed to deliver the project.

Mr Piccolo said while many elements of the project were already designed and “shovel ready”, the sticking point had been money.

“This commitment will lay a practical foundation for the rest of the project to move forward as funding becomes available,” he said.

Here’s What the Forshore Plans Include

Beyond the roadworks and ramp upgrades, the broader plans for the foreshore precinct paint an inviting picture. Proposed additions include extended playground facilities, a walking path, open lawns, a fish cleaning station, a half-court basketball area, a disability swing and — because it wouldn’t be Parham without it — a crab sculpture.

The upgrades would make an already popular crabbing and camping spot even more inviting. Parham’s well-used campground, managed by the Mallala & Districts Lions Club in cooperation with the Parham and District Action Group, has made it a popular stopover for travellers.
