Hannah Moloney headlines South Australia’s biggest one-day garden event

If your green thumb’s been itching all winter, the SA Spring Garden Festival is the place be this September. Held at the Mount Pleasant Showgrounds it’s a day packed with bumper crops of inspiration, colour and good old-fashioned country hospitality.

Now in its 11th year, the festival has grown into one of South Australia’s biggest one-day garden events. With 2–3,000 people expected through the gates, it blends big-name garden talks with displays, stallholders and a stack of gardening inspiration. This year’s program is headlined by ABC’s Gardening Australia presenter Hannah Moloney, alongside a line-up of experts sharing tips on everything from wicking beds and healthy soil to medicinal herbs, companion planting and the hidden life of insects.

What can you expect on the day?

Festival goers will be spoiled for choice with nursery displays bursting with plants, rare varieties, outdoor art, garden furniture, homewares and practical tools – all from stallholders connected to gardening and the great outdoors.

It’s not just about shopping either. Families will love the Kids’ Garden Trail, while Climbing Tree brings their ever-popular outdoor play to keep little ones busy while you browse. Throw in live entertainment, raffles, food and coffee and you’ve got the makings of a perfect spring day out.

Adding to the line-up, local radio station BBBfm 89.1 will be broadcasting live from the festival. A full program will also be available to download from the festival website on the Monday before the event, and updates will be shared on socials in the lead-up.

Who’s headlining this year?

VIP guest speaker Hannah Moloney – permaculture powerhouse and author of The Good Life: How to Grow a Better World – will share her wisdom on “Growing Great Tomatoes.” She’s joined by Mark Smith, Alison Heidenreich, Alex Girke, Aleisha Lynch and Malcolm Haines, who’ll cover everything from soil science to the role of insects in your garden.
