Balaklava Show turns up the volume with SA Police Jazz Band

They’ve played in halls, parades and paddocks right across South Australia – and now the much-loved SA Police Traditional Jazz Band is bringing their big brassy energy to Balaklava.

Known for their cheeky charm, barbershop-style harmonies and infectious jazz tunes, this crowd-favourite ensemble is one of the most popular offshoots of the Band of the South Australia Police. Their performances are packed with toe-tapping songs, and whether you’re eight or eighty, they’re guaranteed to bring smiles and maybe even inspire a few spontaneous jazz hands.

All the country show classics you love

Of course, there’s no show without punch – or in this case, some good old-fashioned country show classics.

Across the grounds, the 2025 Balaklava Show will once again roll out all the favourites. From Sideshow Alley and showbags to camel rides, roving balloon creations, an animal nursery, sandpit fun, and face painting, there’s something for everyone to enjoy, keeping little faces smiling all day.

Over on the oval, Horses in Action will return with a full program of equestrian displays – a favourite for riders, families and anyone who enjoys a well-plaited tail and a bit of friendly competition.

Inside the pavilions, you’ll find all the country show classics from fluffy scones, jam-jars fresh from the kitchen, flower arrangements, homegrown produce, and school displays proudly showing off the handiwork of local kids. Rival bakers will be out for glory, fruit cake makers will guard their recipes like state secrets, and crafty types of all ages will be eyeing off that coveted blue ribbon.

And of course, we can’t forget the poultry, with dashing ducks and ravishing roosters doing their best to impress – plus displays of hay and seed, sheep, cattle, and all things country.

The ever-popular Upcycle Competition will be back for another year, daring locals to turn shed junk into clever creations, with prize money (and bragging rights) on the line.

From best to dirtiest in the ute and truck muster

For the rev-heads, the Ute & Truck Muster is back in full swing. There are ribbons up for grabs across multiple categories, including Best Classic, Best Farm Ute, Best 4×4, Dirtiest Ute and even Best Business Fleet!
