A Fishing Frenzy – Odds ‘Scale Up’ as More Prize Fish Hit SA Waters
If you’ve been looking for a sign to grab the rod, pack an esky and disappear on a spontaneous fishing trip… we’ve found it!
Round two of South Australia’s ultimate fishing comp officially launched on December 1 – and the prize pool has exploded to a massive $85,000. Yep – there’s $85k swimming around SA waters.
The Let’s Go Fishing Frenzy is a RecFish SA initiative – funded by the SA Government’s algal response package.
Go Fishing and Reel in the Big Bucks
Each round is a game of skill and a race to snatch the $10,000 catch. Once the big one’s gone off, there’s some decent consolation prizes, with $5,000 for the second tagged fish caught, $2,500 for third, plus instant win tags worth both $100 and a handy $1,000 – that’s a lot of bait and tackle!
Now we know there’s plenty of fish in the sea, but this isn’t a complete needle in a haystack situation. There’s comprehensive maps showing exactly where the tagged fish are released.

As of December 1, the odds have scaled up, with more fish released in a wave of new locations, including salmon at Robe, golden and silver perch in the Bundaleer Reservoir and 100 $100 carp in Lake Bonney. Aroona Dam at Leigh Creek has even scored some prize fish, as has the Eyre Peninsula. And there are still plenty of Round 1 tagged fish cruising around, getting bigger by the day.
Ashley Dezsery from RecFish SA said for those who don’t usually throw a line in a reservoir – now’s the time to give it a go!
“Realistically, your best chance to win is fishing the reservoirs,” he said. And even if you don’t snag a winner, there’s a chance you could reel in a one metre Murray cod, which Ashely said were lurking about in many of the state’s reservoirs.

The race is on! It’s free to enter. The prize pool is huge, and the bragging rights? Astronomical!
