Celebrate Penola with Winter Showdown, live tunes, and plenty of family fun
This Friday, Penola is throwing a massive party to celebrate its well-earned title as Agricultural Town of the Year 2024.
The action starts at 4pm with Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development Clare Scriven cutting the ribbon and officially kicking off the celebrations. From there, it’s all systems go with food trucks, live music, and plenty of fun for the whole family. The Show Society BBQ will be flipping free snags and handing out fruit boxes to the first 200 kids, and if you’re hungry for something a little more gourmet, Roosters Rotisserie and Strawberries Galore will be serving up a feast.
The launch of the Warrawindi Farms’ Winter Showdown is one of the night’s highlights. The Junior Cattle Judging competition gets underway with young handlers showing their stuff in the ring, giving cattle their first outing of the season. It’s the perfect way to encourage and support the next generation of farmers.
For the little ones, there’s a cowboy hat-making station, a hobby horse competition, and free pony rides. For the adults, there’ll be live music from local bands Lady and the Amp and Nangwarry’s own Stamina, who’ll be rocking out with their covers of 80s, 90s, and 2000s rock, grunge, and punk classics.
A giant machinery display will be on show, with a cold one waiting for you at the bar and a fire pit to keep things toasty.
Penola’s title as Agricultural Town of the Year reflects the hard work and spirit of the community. This Friday, celebrate with a fitting tribute to a town truly leading the way in agriculture.
