Ten artists and one iconic backdrop as the Flinders Ranges takes centre stage at Wilpena Woolshed
The Flinders Ranges has been painted a thousand times, but somehow the view never gets old. For more than 20 years, the Painters of the Flinders Ranges have been proving that, each with their own take on the red dirt, big skies and rugged country that makes this region so unforgettable.
This group of 10 professional artists first came together back in 2002. Since then, their work has popped up in collections across Australia and overseas, but each spring they return to the same place that started it all – the Old Wilpena Woolshed.
Their 2025 exhibition, The Flinders Revealed XXIII, runs from Saturday, September 6 to Monday, October 6, filling the historic woolshed with around 100 works, ranging from oils and watercolours to pastels and mixed media. Held as part of the A Brush With Art festival, it’s a prestigious event – the second largest regional art show in South Australia – and one that draws a strong following from local, interstate and overseas visitors.

What makes the show stand out is the chance to meet the people holding the brush. The artists are there to chat, answer questions, and share what goes into capturing this unique and forever-changing landscape.
For locals, it’s a proud reminder of the talent living in their own backyard and for visitors, it’s an invitation to see the Flinders Ranges through the eyes of people who know it best. One thing’s guaranteed – you’ll never look at the ranges quite the same way, and you might even go home with a stunning reminder for your wall.
