Vintage Tractors, Family Fun and 150 Years of Railway History
The Mundoora Vintage Tractor Pull is revving up for another big weekend of mud and dust, combining old machinery, country hospitality and a celebration of 150 years of local railway history.
Mundoora Mud and Dust is back for its third year, bringing together vintage tractors, classic cars, trucks, stationary engines and plenty of family fun at the Mundoora Oval.
The Famous Pie Cart Returns to Life
This year’s event has an extra reason to celebrate, marking 150 years since the opening of the Port Broughton to Mundoora railway line. Built in 1876 to carry grain from the district to waiting ships at Port Broughton, the railway played a huge role in the region’s farming history.
Visitors will be able to celebrate the milestone with the unveiling of a replica of the famous “Pie Cart” – the horse-drawn passenger carriage that once carried locals, mail and visitors along the line. The replica has been created by Port Broughton craftsman Wayne Dennis, who brought Lochiel’s famous Loch Ness Monster to life.
Family fun for all ages
There’s plenty happening across the weekend, with free miniature steam train rides, remote control demonstrations, pedal tractor pulls for the kids, farm animals, a jumping castle and giant lawn games.
History buffs can browse railway memorabilia, photographs and displays inside the footy sheds, while the local museum will also be open with a collection of tools, equipment and stories from years gone by.
If shopping is more your thing, there’ll be market stalls selling everything from plants and leatherwork to candles, toys, soap and garden ornaments, while the Mundoora Markets will also be running on Sunday morning.
No country event is complete without good food, with the CWA serving homemade soup, scones, cakes and biscuits, while the barbecue will be raising money for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
Entry is just $5 for adults, with children under 14 free, making it an affordable country day out for the whole family.
