Swim, Splash and Stay Active at Mt Barker’s Summit Aquatic and Leisure Centre
Mt Barker’s Aquatic and Leisure Centre has officially opened its doors, replacing the old Mountain Pool and giving the rapidly growing Mt Barker community a state-of-the-art space to swim, splash and stay active. And the locals are already diving in!
This $52 million project was made possible through funding from the Federal and State Governments and the Mount Barker District Council — a joint effort that recognises just how quickly the region is growing.
The centre isn’t just about swimming laps. It’s designed to bring people together, offering:
- A 25-metre indoor pool
- A warm water therapy pool
- A dedicated learn-to-swim pool
- A splash play area for the kids
- A modern gym, creche, and community meeting rooms
Accessibility has been a big focus. The centre includes ramps into every pool, wide concourses, multiple accessible change rooms, and a Changing Places facility — providing dignity and ease for people with high support needs.
Locals are already diving in, with more than 1,000 memberships snapped up before the doors even opened
Mount Barker District Council Mayor David Leach says the centre has been designed with the whole community in mind.
“This facility has been designed with our growing community in mind, offering something for everyone – from children learning to swim, to seniors enjoying warm water therapy, to families spending time together. It’s a game-changer for the region.”
The centre is expected to employ up to 100 people and attract visitors from across the Hills, providing a boost to the local economy as well as a social hub for the community.
With more than 1,000 memberships already snapped up, it’s clear this new facility is set to become the beating heart of Mt Barker for years to come.
