From sheep shears to steam engines, Loxton Alive Day puts the past back to work

If you’ve ever wanted to swap screen time for sheep shears or see how printing was done before a simple click of a mouse, Alive Day at the Loxton Historical Village is your chance.

On Saturday, September 6, the village will throw open its gates for a full day of living history. Watch the blacksmith fire up the forge, shearers at work, and the printing press clattering away. There’s whip cracking, a vintage photo booth, and free horse and cart rides for a proper old-fashioned trot around the grounds.

Kids can have a crack at some crafts and games, with plenty of food and market stalls to keep the whole crew happy. This year also marks 100 years since the Yinkanie Rail Line opened – the track that once connected Loxton to the outside world and kept goods, grain, and people moving across the region.
