Over 40 events across 12 Yorke Peninsula towns — art, music, movement and more at GROUNDED Yorke Peninsula
If you thought the Yorke Peninsula was just about chasing whiting and catching crabs, think again. This month, the region’s buzzing with creativity — with more than 40 events popping up across 12 towns, offering a chance to slow down, get inspired, and see the Yorke Peninsula in a whole new light.
From Ardrossan to Edithburgh, Maitland to Marion Bay — with lanterns, live music and everything in between — GROUNDED isn’t your average art fest, it’s an invitation to experience the Yorke Peninsula like never before.
The 10-day festival kicks off on August 15, with a hands-on program packed with pottery, painting, kids’ craft, dancing, weaving and even seaglass jewellery making.

A standout feature of Grounded is the work of local photographer Steph Ball, who runs Ballara Art & Lifestyle Retreat in Warooka. Over the course of a year, Steph captured one Yorke Peninsula beach each week — showcasing just how much the coastline shifts and sparkles with the seasons. No two beaches are ever the same, and the YP really does have the best of the best. She invited local artists to interpret her photographs in their own creative style, resulting in a stunning collaboration that celebrates both community and coast. Steph’s exhibition will be on show at Ballara throughout the festival, with the official book launch for A Beach A Week happening on Sunday, August 17.
Light, Sound and Soul – Experience Art in Every Form
It’s not all textiles and brushstrokes — Grounded also invites you to experience art in motion, sound and light. Try something completely different with an Intro to InterPlay at Warooka — a creative movement session that brings art to life through your body.
At Ardrossan Town Hall, step into Sea of Light by Patch Theatre — an interactive installation where you’ll use a UV torch to paint your own glowing journey across the floor, steer light-up ships, and bring imagination to life through motion and colour.

Then there’s the music. Award-winning performer Charlee Watt brings new energy to your favourite Beatles tracks, joined by Karina Voight at the Stansbury Institute on Saturday, August 16 — and again at Edithburgh’s Location Café on Sunday, August 17 with Chorus by the Sea.
In a moving tribute, John Schumann (of Redgum’s I Was Only 19) and his six-piece band, The Vagabond Crew, present Behind the Lines – Australia at War in Words and Music to mark the opening of the Vietnam War Memorial Walk at the Light Church Auditorium in Edithburgh on Monday, August 18.
And the curtain’s rising in Maitland too, with the Maitland Music & Arts Club presenting The Music Man — a joy-filled, toe-tapping production about con artists, small-town spirit, and irresistible showmanship.
If pizza, wine, and music are more your flavour — head to Barley Stacks Wines for Vineyard Sessions, a relaxed afternoon of sipping and singing. And the YP’s one and only award-winning winery will also be hosting a specially curated degustation dinner showcasing the region’s finest produce.
These are just a snippet of the standout events lighting up the leg this August. In fact the whole festival will culminate in a magical coastal performance weaving light, fire, movement and culture on the shores of Marion Bay on August 23. Lanterns & Fire – The Story of Widhadha — is a large-scale outdoor performance inspired by Narungga cultural stories and bringing together local artists and school students from across the Yorke Peninsula.
