Cinema Classic – Sunday Too Far Away, Celebrates 50 Years with Special September Screenings Lighting Up Quorn Silos

This September, the Quorn Silos will become the backdrop for a special celebration of Australian cinema.

To mark the 50th anniversary of its release, Sunday Too Far Away will be screened every Saturday night throughout the month. Presented by The Flinders Ranges Council and Roadshow Films, the night begins with short films at 6.45pm before the feature starts at around 7.10pm.

Filmed in Quorn and Port Augusta in 1975, Sunday Too Far Away was one of the first films produced by the South Australian Film Corporation. Starring Jack Thompson, it tells the story of shearers on an outback station in 1956 — a tough, honest look at hard work, rivalry, and mateship. The film went on to win AFI Awards, screen at Cannes, and cement itself as an Australian classic.

The screenings add to the award-winning Quorn Silo Light Show, which transforms the silos every night from sunset into a three-hour celebration of local stories, art and history. In September, the light show will roll into the movie — making it a one-of-a-kind experience in the very place the film was made.

Bring a chair, grab some takeaway from the pub, and enjoy a drive-in style experience in the stunning Flinders Ranges.

Screenings will be held on September 6, 13, 20 and 27.
