Time To Back Your Town And Show SA What It’s Made Of

Think your town’s got what it takes? Ag town nominations are now open for SA’s next Ag Town of the Year.

You reckon your patch of dirt stacks up? Strong farms, good people, and a community that shows up when it counts? Then it might be time to stop talking about it and put your town forward.

Nominations are now open for the 2026 Agricultural Town of the Year, with communities across South Australia set to go head-to-head for the title.

This isn’t just about what’s growing in the paddock. It’s about the towns that live and breathe agriculture, and the way that flows through everything, from local jobs to schools, businesses, and the people who call it home.

The Reality On The Ground

Let’s be honest, the past year hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing. Between rising costs, tough seasons and the usual curveballs farming throws, plenty of towns have had to dig deep. That’s exactly why this award matters.

Last year, Lameroo in the Southern Mallee took the title, chosen from a record 96 nominations. It’s a town that proudly backs its ag roots, with strong community support and a clear focus on growth and opportunity.

Before that, Penola, Wudinna, Mypolonga, Kimba, Pinnaroo and Cleve have all had their moment in the sun, proving it’s not about size, but about heart, effort, and backing your town.

What’s In It For The Winner

It’s not just bragging rights up for grabs. The winning town gets recognised across the state, with signage at the town entrance, a community celebration, and plenty of media coverage highlighting the people and businesses behind the scenes. There’s also a feature in SALIFE and coverage through InDaily, uncovering what makes the town tick.

The award, now in its eighth year, is run by PIRSA in partnership with Solstice Media, spotlighting the communities that help drive South Australia’s ag sector and keep regional life ticking along.

“South Australia is home to so many agricultural communities that are worthy of being celebrated,” Primary Industries and Regional Development Minister Clare Scriven said.

“At a time when our farmers and regional communities continue to face significant domestic and global challenges, this award can help bring people together and ensure their stories are seen, celebrated, and widely shared.”

Back Your Town

So if you’re sitting there thinking your town deserves a crack, Ag town nominations are open now.

Anyone can nominate, whether you’re on the land, running a business, teaching at the local school, or just someone who knows your town has something special.

Nominations are now open and close on May 6.
